Guilds Painting Inc. is proud to offer a Two-Year Limited Workmanship Warranty on all our painting services, enabling us to double the peace of mind for our valued clients. We want you to feel confident in the durability and quality of our work, whether it’s a home or a business, interior or exterior.
Coverage
This warranty applies only after the project has been completed and the final walkthrough with the client has been conducted and accepted. Any items identified during the walkthrough are considered part of the project completion and not warranty claims. For a full two (2) years from the completion date of your painting project, Guilds Painting Inc. will repair any peeling, blistering, or chipping of the paint on surfaces we painted, if it results from our defective workmanship. In other words, if our application is improper and causes the paint to fail (crack, flake off, or bubble), we will fix those specific areas for you free of charge for the labor. This commitment covers all project types, interior walls, exterior siding, trim, etc, that we have painted. We will re-prep and repaint the affected spots to remedy the issue, consistent with the original contract’s scope. (As noted, exact color match on repaired spots may not be possible due to normal aging of paint color over time, but we will match it as closely as feasible.)
Warranty Conditions
To ensure transparency and fairness, these conditions apply for the 2-year warranty to be valid:
- Payment and Contract: The painting job must have been paid in full upon completion. The warranty is void if there is an outstanding balance. Also, the warranty terms must be included in your contract and signed at the start. If the warranty clause was not signed as part of the agreement, the warranty will not be in effect.
- Record Keeping: Please retain your signed contract and proof of payment. In the event of a claim, these documents help verify your coverage period and scope.
- Claim Timing & Access: You need to report any problem within the two-year period. Contact us as soon as you notice an issue; the earlier the better, so we can address it promptly. We require the opportunity to inspect the affected areas, so you’ll need to grant access to the property for evaluation and repairs. Warranty work will be conducted during normal business hours or as arranged with you.
- Materials for Repairs: Note that while labor for approved warranty repairs is free, the cost of paint or materials for the repair is the homeowner’s responsibility in this warranty. (Often, we may have leftover paint from the original job we can use, in which case there may be no charge. If new materials are needed, we will discuss options with you.)
- Maintenance Requirement: This warranty is contingent upon the owner taking reasonable steps to maintain the painted surfaces, including addressing leaks, preventing standing water, and cleaning with non-abrasive methods. Failure to maintain the property may void coverage.
Exclusions
Our 2-Year Workmanship Warranty is comprehensive, but it does have sensible exclusions to prevent misuse and clarify responsibility. The following are NOT covered by this warranty:
- Pre-existing Conditions & Structural Issues: Paint problems caused by the condition of your property itself are excluded. For example, structural cracks or building movement that can cause painted surfaces to crack; water intrusion or leaks behind walls causing bubbling, mold, mildew, or rot coming through the paint; or rust from metal that bleeds through. We cannot be liable for paint failure that is actually a symptom of a deeper issue with your home or building.
- Prior Paint Layers: If old paint beneath the areas we painted peels or fails and takes our new paint with it, that is not covered. Our warranty covers the adherence of the new paint to the substrate, but if the substrate has a peeling old paint layer, the issue lies with that old layer.
- Customer Supplied Paint or Materials: We only stand behind materials we know and use. Thus, if you (the client) supplied the paint or any coating product, or insisted on a product against our recommendation, this warranty will not cover issues arising from those materials. Similarly, any portion of the job that wasn’t performed by our crew (e.g., you hired a third party to do part of the painting, or you did some DIY work adjacent to ours) is excluded.
- Wear and Tear / Aging: This warranty doesn’t cover gradual changes or wear that occur normally over time. Minor fading, scuffing, or marks from everyday life (e.g., furniture against a wall) are not workmanship defects. Particularly, high-traffic areas or surfaces like floors, stairs, and handrails will inevitably show wear or smoothness in the finish over time; that is considered normal use, not a failure of our work.
- Horizontal Surfaces & Moisture-Prone Areas: Horizontal or water-trapping surfaces such as decks, floorboards, porch ceilings where condensation collects, steps, or railings, are inherently more vulnerable to wear and weather exposure than vertical surfaces. Rain, snow, and standing water sit directly on these areas, and in Ontario’s climate, the repeated freeze–thaw cycles, salt, and moisture can cause paint or coatings to deteriorate much faster than on walls or siding. This type of damage is caused by environmental conditions rather than workmanship; these surfaces are excluded from the 2-year warranty.
- Specialty Finishes: Clear coatings, varnishes, and stains on woodwork, as well as unusual surfaces like galvanized metal or vinyl that may not accept paint well, are not covered unless explicitly stated. These surfaces have unique behaviors and may peel for reasons unrelated to workmanship.
- Damage or Events Beyond Our Control: Any damage to the painted surfaces due to external causes is not covered. This includes: intentional or accidental damage (impact, scratches, dents), extreme weather or disasters (storms, high winds causing abrasion by debris, hail, fire damage, flood, etc.), vandalism or graffiti, and negligence in care (such as allowing sprinklers to continually spray a painted wall, or not addressing a leak). Our warranty covers failures from how we applied the paint, not from what happens to the paint after we’re done; that is outside normal conditions.
- Consequential Damages: The warranty does not extend to any consequential or incidental damages arising from a paint issue. For instance, if a gutter leak causes paint to peel and also stains your patio, we will repaint the peeled area (if it’s our workmanship) but we are not liable for cleaning the patio or other downstream effects. In any case, our liability is limited to correcting the actual painted surface that we worked on.
Warranty Claim Procedure
To make a claim under this warranty, please reach out to Guilds Painting Inc. at [email protected] with your name, project address, and a description of the issue. Do so as soon as you notice the problem, and certainly within the 24-month window. We will verify your project details and schedule a visit to inspect the concern. If the problem is determined to be covered by this warranty, we will schedule the necessary repairs at no labor cost to you. You may be asked to pay for new paint or materials if required, per the warranty terms. We will then perform the repairs, which usually involve re-preparing (sanding, scraping, priming as needed) the area and re-painting it. Our goal is to make it as if the issue never occurred. After a warranty repair, the remaining term of your warranty still applies to that repaired area (for example, if a failure was fixed at 18 months, the repaired area is warrantied for the remaining 6 months of the original term). Repairs performed under this warranty do not extend or restart the warranty period. The original 24-month term remains in effect. The warranty does not reset with a repair. Repairs are limited to the specific failed area(s) and will not include repainting entire sections unless deemed necessary by Guilds Painting Inc.
Additional Terms
This Two-Year Limited Workmanship Warranty is provided exclusively to the original client and cannot be transferred to new owners or third parties. It is only valid for projects where this warranty was included in the contract and signed, and for work completed by Guilds Painting Inc. After its introduction (this warranty applies only to contracts signed on or after September 5, 2025; projects completed before this date are not covered). No other warranties are implied or offered beyond what is written here. For commercial projects, warranty coverage is limited strictly to workmanship defects on painted surfaces and does not extend to business interruption, tenant claims, or related damages. To the fullest extent allowed by law, our liability for any claim is limited to the original cost of the painting project, and we do not assume liability for any indirect or consequential damages related to paint failures or warranty work. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary by jurisdiction; nothing here is intended to contradict mandatory consumer protection laws.
By providing a two-year warranty, Guilds Painting Inc. assures you of our long-term commitment to quality. We believe in doing the job right, and if there’s an issue due to our workmanship, we’ll make it right. This warranty has been crafted to be thorough and fair: you get extended protection, and we clearly outline the reasonable limits. We want this policy to give you confidence in choosing us, while also safeguarding against scenarios outside our control or inappropriate claims.
